Category: Construction Trades, Government
Services: eLearning, Creative Services
Project Description: Under a grant from the US Department of Labor, MetaMedia teamed with the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association (OPCMIA) to develop training on ways to conduct their trade in a more sustainable way. By hiring skilled union tradespersons, trained in this “green” or energy-efficient manner, a contractor brings added value to a project on which LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) compliance is a criterion for the award. Working with OPCMIA subject matter experts, MetaMedia developed the “Green Five”; a package of five courses for this effort. Each course was classroom-based, comprising a detailed student manual, an instructor’s guide, a custom-produced media-rich PowerPoint presentation and video shot by MetaMedia specifically for the Green Five curriculum.
By polishing concrete floors, a cement contractor can produce a brilliant, high-gloss shine without the use of paints and sealers that release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) while curing; another LEED compliant feature. MetaMedia consulted with concrete polishing contractors and the OPCMIA and filmed the concrete polishing process at the OPCMIA local in the greater Minneapolis, MN area.
