Project Description: Under a grant from the US Department of Labor, MetaMedia teamed with the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association (OPCMIA) to develop training on ways to conduct their trade in a more sustainable way. By hiring skilled union tradespersons, trained in this “green” or energy-efficient manner, a contractor brings added value to a project on which LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) compliance is a criterion for the award. Working with OPCMIA subject matter experts, MetaMedia developed the “Green Five”; a package of five courses for this effort. Each course was classroom-based, comprising a detailed student manual, an instructor’s guide, a custom-produced media-rich PowerPoint presentation and video shot by MetaMedia specifically for the Green Five curriculum.

OPCMIA plasterers learned to apply American Clay interior plasters. MetaMedia visited the American Clay headquarters in Albuquerque, NM to gather content and consult with the manufacturer about the product. These non-cementitious interior plasters are made from locally-sourced non-synthetic materials and meet LEED requirements for valuable points on a project bid. In the course, OPCMIA plasterers learned proper application technique and methods to spot repair.
