MetaMedia Training International, Inc. has won a Silver Davey Award for a recruiting video produced for the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC). The NJATC marketing video is part of two podcasts designed to attract high school and college students to take up a career in the electrical industry. Creatively shot to appeal to the “MTV Generation,” the dynamic video features a rock band performance that reminds viewers of the role that electricity plays in everyday life—from microphones to lights, and micro chips to solid-state electronics.
“To communicate your message to the audience, you have to connect with them first. So, the goal of our shoot was to generate the kind of fast-paced, energetic scenario that captures the imagination of today’s young men and women,” said MetaMedia Producer Dave Ogden. “The video features the kind of slick visuals, quick cuts, unusual camera angles, and driving music that really grabs their attention.”
MetaMedia developed a second podcast video intended for high school guidance, college, and vocational counselors that highlights the excellent wages, outstanding benefits, and career advancement opportunities available in the electrical industry. In addition, MetaMedia created a branded Website for NJATC from which the two podcasts are launched.
MetaMedia recommended a podcast delivery platform due to the medium’s overall versatility. Podcasts can be searched and downloaded via iTunes or through a Website, are updatable through the use of Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, can be easily downloaded to iPods, and can be re-purposed for DVD delivery as well as other electronic formats.
The annual International Davey Awards honors the achievements of smaller firms who derive their strength from big ideas rather than stratospheric budgets. The Davey is sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from acclaimed media, advertising, and marketing firms. IAVA members include executives from organizations such as Condè Nast, Coach, Disney, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Estee Lauder, HBO, Monster.com, MTV, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Victoria’s Secret, Wired, Yahoo!, and more.
The mission of the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee is to develop and standardize training to educate the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), thus providing the electrical construction industry with the most highly trained and skilled workforce possible. The NJATC was established 68 years ago and has developed into one of the largest apprenticeship and training programs of its kind. Local programs affiliated with the NJATC have trained over 350,000 apprentices to journeyman status without cost to taxpayers.
